Little House on the Prairie – I love Pa

I’ve just read Tim Dowling on the subject of “How to Be A Model Husband”. http://www.theguardian.com/…/tim-dowlings-guide-long-term-l…
It coincides with re-reading all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books (I’m reading Little House on the Prairie to Gabe and couldn’t resist jumping ahead for a luxurious re-read). It seems to me that Laura’s Pa is pretty nearly perfect. He was incredibly practical and industrious, as well as endlessly supportive of his womenfolk, and he never loses his cool despite some pretty trying situations. And he has a sense of humour, in that bearded 1860s kind of way. I would recommend modern men to model themselves on him rather than Tim.

I remember my old headmaster working his way through the entire series at primary school. He would read aloud for an hour at a time, occasionally asking a student to take over. I still have fond memories of those books nearly forty years later.
